Samsung's ridiculously expensive 105-inch curved 4K Ultra HD TV now up for pre-order

I was in Best Buy over the weekend and happened upon the recently-constructed Samsung television center, a shop-inside-a-shop concept similar to the Samsung Experience Shop for mobile devices. The centerpiece of the retail space was no doubt the curved 78-inch 4K Ultra HD TV priced just south of $8,000.

While that's certainly a lot of money to spend on a television set, a small part of me could somehow justify the expense given the size, curvature and resolution it affords. Samsung's 105-inch variant that went up for pre-order earlier today, however, is a completely different story.

This massive curved OLED set, which is compatible with Samsung's Evolution Kit, debuted at CES in January. While the television is classified as an Ultra HD set, that's technically inaccurate. The screen's extra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio instead affords a resolution of 5,120 x 2,160. As such, 4K content will have some black bars on the sides although some newer blockbuster films like Transformers: Age of Extinction are shot in 21:9.

What's the cost of owning a set that's larger than a king size bed? A mere $120,000. And no, that isn't an error.

Samsung's Elite Service is also included in the purchase price. With it, a Samsung representative will come to your home after the set has been installed and help you properly set up and optimize the television for the best possible viewing experience.

Surprisingly enough, the 105-inch beast can be mounted on the wall but you'll need to purchase the wall mount kit separately.
